POWERVR VIDEO & DISPLAY

POWERVR Video

Imagination Technologies has a long history of providing high quality video decoding cores to high volume consumer electronics markets. Our advanced multi-standard video decoder technology provides our customers with the confidence to create reliable multimedia system on chip solutions where die size, power consumption and adherence to standards are critical to the success of their products. The POWERVR™ range of multi-standard video cores offer performance scalability from single stream low-definition video decode acceleration to multi stream high-definition hardware video encode and decode. The widest range of multi-standard format support includes: H.264, H.263, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, WGigabyte M852MV9/VC-1.

The POWERVR VXD range of multi-standard video accelerators decode a range of compressed video formats on a multi-standard basis. By accelerating performance intensive functions  they vastly decrease the CPU power required for video decode and are ideal for use in handheld and mobile applications. POWERVR VXE video encoders deliver several key attributes which  are paramount in efficient systems: low power consumption, small size and high picture quality. The host CPU has minimum work to do because POWERVR VXE cores can process all the compression tasks from image to elementary stream.

POWERVR multi-standard video codecs enable hardware encode and decode for a range of compressed video formats on a multi-standard basis. These codecs offload the complete video functionality to give the lowest CPU power requirements. Despite having massively multi-standard capability (or any combination of standards to minimise royalty costs) POWERVR video cores typically take up comparable silicon area to single standard solutions.

POWERVR Display

Imagination offers a range of POWERVR™ display solutions to ensure the highest visual quality irrespective of whether the screen is a handheld LCD device, a standard definition CRT, or the latest high-definition flat-panel digital TV. The POWERVR PDP IP core is a flexible Pixel Display Pipeline which scales from supporting a single graphics stream to full ARIB specification, combining multi-layer video, graphics and UI.
Sharp Digital TV
POWERVR PDP can be augmented with a complimentary range of image enhancement technologies for optimum quality whether outputting to CRT or flat panel display. The POWERVR TVE TVOut digital TV encoder outputs PAL or NTSC encoded composite video and simultaneous S-Video, or RGBS, or YUV component video for TV display when connected to a pixel display pipeline such as POWERVR PDP.

The POWERVR I2P range of de-interlacing cores offers the highest visual display quality of interlaced video content displayed on progressive displays. The cores are available with either motion adaptive (MA) or motion compensated (MC) de-interlacing support and can additionally support recursive film noise reduction and film mode detection. The POWERVR IEP Image Enhancement Processor offers a toolkit of picture improvement features including, CTI, LTI, skin tone correction, blue stretch, edge enhancement and black level expansion.
