Gremlin DemoThe Gremlin demo illustrates advanced facial animation with more than 10 different morph targets for facial animation and vertex skinning for head orientation animation. Morphing is implemented in hardware by using geometry textures which encode the differential vertex positions relative to the average allowing the final morph pose to be calculated using simple weighted texture blending. The geometry texture is uiltimately used to distort the average facial model through vertex texturing functionality. This approach enables high performance morphing on mobile platforms and avoids costly weighted blending operations from being executed every frame since the geometry texture acts as a type of deformation cache. Head orientation and rotation cannot be implemented effectively using morphing and is implemented through standard skeleton based skinning which combined with the morphing allows for compelling real-time facial and head animation on embedded graphics solutions based on POWERVR SGX Graphics IP Core Family. Both a rolling demo and interactive mode is supported which gives the user full control of the morphing and animation controls.
