DIGITAL TV & SET TOP BOX

TV is the largest single product category for all major consumer electronics manufacturers and the rise of digital TV has become an unstoppable force, mandating a switch-over from analogue TV worldwide. The analogue-to-digital transition is progressing rapidly in the main consumer electronics territories.

The transition from analogue to digital has been accompanied by a switch from Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) to flat panel TVs using Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) or Plasma Display Panel (PDP) technology. These flat-panel TVs are typically much larger than CRTs, and so more revealing of image quality problems. We have developed unique IP solutions to address this.

HDTV is entering mainstream broadcasting worldwide and presents a considerable opportunity. While IDTV (Integrated Digital TV) is a key growth area today, Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) is a fast emerging segment which will be equally relevant. Both are developing market segments for our IP.

We have a growing set of DTV and STB relationships which will lead to more exciting products in the near future. We have new partnership engagements in progress too, although final product delivery and volume ramp-up takes longer than some of the other segments in which we are engaged. As well as opportunities for video we are also finding that licensees are interested in implementing 3D in TV products, particularly for user interfaces.
